Sheikh Al-Hadith Professor Dr. Mufti Muhammad Zafar Iqbal Jalali, chairman of the Shariah Board Pakistan, has established the current year’s minimums for Sadaqah-e-Fitr and Fidya. The announced rate for Sadaqah-e-Fitr, a mandatory Ramadan donation, is Rs300 per person, equal to about two kilograms of wheat flour. The same amount applies to Fidya for those excused from fasting due to health issues.
Dr. Jalali calls on the wealthy to give generously, setting Fitrana and Fidya amounts based on financial ability. Rates for oats are Rs600, dates are Rs2,400, and raisins are Rs4,400.
He also detailed Fidya for missing the entire month’s fasts, ranging from Rs9,000 for wheat flour to Rs132,000 for raisins, aimed at those permanently unable to fast.
Dr Jalali noted that travellers or those temporarily exempt must make up missed fasts, as Fidya does not replace fasting.
The Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Security set the Zakat minimum at Rs135,179 for 2024. Savings and PLS account holders exceeding this threshold must pay 2.5% Zakat on their balance.
