Sadaf Munir, arguably one of the most talented vocalists the country has ever produced, along with her accompanying musicians held a rare concert in Karachi last weekend.
The ‘nightingale’ as she has been dubbed by her fans has had the rare opportunity of working with the likes of Nisar Bazmi and Sohail Rana.
Humming her tradamark songs on various shows on Pakistan Television Channel such as “Saarey Dost Hamarey” and “Ranng Barang”, she was recognized for her natural musical aptitude as early as her pre-teens.
The scenic yet contemporary “Sattar Buksh Café” was an excellent venue for the concert. It started a tad behind schedule but once Sadaf took the stage, there was not a sound to be heard except of course, for her melodious voice.
The venue was absolutely jam-packed with barely any seating room even on the floor.
She started off with the haunting “Tum Sung Naina Lage” and “Lag Jaa Galay Phir Yay Haseen Raat Ho Na Ho” then moved on to the other golden oldies of both the Pakistani and Indian film industry.
Numbers such as “Woh Mera Samaan Lota Do”, “Awaz Do Kahan Ho” and “Akalay Naa Jaana” had the audience swaying along to the beat and the magical lyrics.
Not just a singer but an entertainer par excellence, in between all her numbers she talked, interacted and laughed right along with the crowd.
She rounded off an enchanting evening with catchy pop numbers like her own super hit “Cha Giay Hain Badaloun Kay Saiy” and the 80s classic “Boom Boom” which had the audience belting out the songs right along with her.
Much to her consternation the listeners quite simply refused to let her go. Making her take request after request till her throat was raw ans she had to beg permission to leave.
Her concert was a badly needed breath of fresh air it is hoped that such concerts will continue to be held regularly in future
