Rwanda’s Fanny Utagushima Ninde created history by breaking the youngest T20 international century record during the Nigeria Invitational Women’s T20I Tournament in Lagos.
The 15-year-old opener delivered a stunning performance, guiding her team to a dominant 122-run victory over Ghana.
Utagushima Ninde scored an unbeaten 111 off 65 balls, showcasing remarkable composure and skill at a young age. At 15 years and 223 days, she surpassed the previous record held by Uganda’s Prosscovia Alako, who achieved the feat at 16 years and 233 days in 2019.
Her innings not only secured a victory but also marked a significant milestone in women’s cricket. The Rwandan batter became the first female cricketer to score a T20 international century on her debut. This remarkable achievement positions her among the most promising young talents in the sport. Her performance underscores the increasing strength of women’s cricket in emerging nations.
In men’s cricket, Gustav McKeon from France holds the record for the youngest player to score a T20 international century, at 18 years and 280 days old. This makes Utagushimaninde’s record even more remarkable by comparison.
Rwanda’s strong batting, led by Utagushima Nindee, was crucial to their match victory. Their 122-run win highlighted their dominance and further emphasised the significance of the young star’s record-breaking innings.
