Robobus, an autonomous minibus created by Chinese startup PIX Moving, is slated to operate in Turin, in the Alps. It will offer short-distance transportation services in collaboration with Italian firm Tecnocad.
PIX Moving, which hails from a high-tech zone in Guiyang, has secured a license from Turin’s municipal government to test and operate its self-driving vehicles on public roads.
The driverless minibus, PIX Moving’s flagship product, has already entered markets in Spain, Japan, the USA, and India.
The company has shipped a Robobus unit to Turin for field testing before its official launch, with further exports planned based on demand.
This electric vehicle lacks typical bus features such as a driver’s cab, steering wheel, pedals, or mirrors and is designed for easy bidirectional movement due to its symmetrical build.
Robobus can reach up to 30 km per hour, transport six passengers, and cover 100-130 km on a single charge.
Angelo Yu, CEO of PIX Moving, explained, “The minibus’s base features an open-source autonomous driving chassis, built on a modular platform with AI and digital manufacturing technologies. This allows for installing various systems tailored to specific service needs.”
