Los Angeles police have identified Nick Reiner, the son of filmmaker Rob Reiner, as a suspect in the killing of his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, who were found dead at their Brentwood home on December 14, 2025.
Authorities confirmed that the couple died from stab wounds and that the case is being treated as a homicide. Investigators have not yet announced an arrest or filed formal charges, but law enforcement sources told U.S. media that Nick Reiner is a central focus of the investigation.
The Los Angeles Police Department said officers discovered the bodies during a welfare check at the family’s residence. Detectives are continuing forensic analysis and interviews as part of what officials described as an “active and evolving investigation.”
Police have declined to comment on a motive or timeline and stressed that the inquiry remains ongoing.

Who is Nick Reiner
Nick Reiner is one of Rob and Michele Reiner’s children. He has previously spoken publicly about his long struggle with drug addiction, which began during his teenage years and led to multiple rehabilitation attempts and periods of homelessness.

In a 2016 interview, Nick said he later returned home and rebuilt ties with his family. He also wrote the screenplay for Being Charlie, a semi-autobiographical film about addiction that his father directed. Rob Reiner later described it as the most personal project of his career.
Despite being named a suspect by sources familiar with the case, Nick Reiner has not been formally charged, and police have not publicly confirmed his legal status. Under U.S. law, he is presumed innocent unless proven otherwise.
Authorities said additional updates will be released as the investigation progresses.
