The swelling floodwaters, registering a flow of 20,000 cusecs, are currently coursing their way through Nullah Dek. Notably, at critical junctures like Kangara and Chahor, the provincial irrigation department highlighted that water levels had risen alarmingly. They specifically flagged that the water elevation at Kangara is increasing.
Potential Areas at Risk
Authorities are increasingly concerned about several local regions that are potentially in the direct path of these floodwaters. Places like Chahor, Dogri, Ropowali, Tamboh Ghalib, and Kalowali Syedan might find themselves submerged if the water levels continue to rise at the current pace. Given the looming threat, the local administration has gone on high alert. They’ve dispatched rescue and relief teams to the areas above as a precautionary measure.
Historical Flooding Instances
This isn’t the first instance of such an occurrence. Earlier in July, India released water into Nullah Dek, which subsequently led to flooding in several villages in the Pasrur tehsil of the Sialkot district. The aftermath saw vast stretches of villages inundated and standing crops spanning hundreds of acres submerged, spelling disaster for local agriculture.
