Karachi has witnessed a surge in robbery incidents, with criminals posing as Bykea riders to execute their crimes.
The New Town police in District East have recently apprehended a gang member utilizing this disguise to facilitate thefts.
The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) for District East reported that the culprits, including the arrested suspect Amjad Khan, would carry weapons and ammunition in bags and wear Bykea helmets to blend in and evade capture after their crimes.
On September 24, in one notable incident, the gang confronted a car driver in the New Town area, robbing him at gunpoint. The confrontation ended with the criminals firing shots as they escaped. Another robbery took place near Pakistan College on Stadium Road, where the assailants stole a 9mm pistol, 240,000 rupees, and a mobile phone from a car driver. A similar crime occurred in the Aziz Bhatti area, with the thieves making off with a mobile phone, a laptop, and cash.
From the apprehended suspect, police recovered an illegal 9mm pistol, ammunition, a Bykea rider’s helmet, and cash. A formal case has been registered, and an investigation is ongoing.
