Renowned journalist Khaled Ahmed passed away at his residence in Zaman Park on Sunday at the age of 81 due to cardiac arrest.

Born in 1943 in Jalandhar, Khaled Ahmed had a distinguished career in journalism spanning over four decades. Following an initial stint as a bureaucrat in the foreign service, he contributed to prominent publications, including The Pakistan Times, The Nation, The Frontier Post, The Friday Times, and Daily Times. He last served as a consulting editor at Newsweek Pakistan.

Longtime colleague, mentor, friend and an inspiration Khaled Ahmed is no more. Khaled sb was an intellectual tower house. A true man of letters with laser sharp faculties; a humanist and courageous beyond belief. May he rest in peace. Devastated, am struggling to process this! pic.twitter.com/4rmjOGfdZz

Khaled Ahmed was an alumnus of Government College Lahore, where he earned his MA (Honours) during the 1965 war, also achieving recognition on the roll of honour. He furthered his education with a German diploma from Punjab University and a Russian (interpretation) diploma from Moscow State University in 1970.

His publications, including “Pakistan: The State in Crisis” and “Sectarian War: Sunni-Shia Conflict in Pakistan,” highlighted his deep insights into Pakistan’s socio-political issues.
