YouTuber and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, popularly known for his “BeerBiceps” channel, recently sparked significant controversy with a comment on comedian Samay Raina’s “India’s Got Latent” show.
During the episode, Allahbadia posed a provocative question to a contestant, asking, “Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once and stop it forever?” This comment, made in the presence of fellow content creators like Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Mukhija (known as “The Rebel Kid” on Instagram), quickly went viral, drawing criticism across social media platforms.
The remark led to widespread backlash, with audio storyteller and author Neelesh Misra condemning the “perverted creators” shaping India’s creative economy. Misra criticized the lack of content regulation, noting that children could easily access such material due to platform algorithms. He expressed concern over the normalization and celebration of such content by audiences and creators alike, highlighting a broader issue with the incentives of decency within the Indian creative landscape.
The episode also prompted reactions from political figures, with Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate labelling the behaviour as perverse rather than creative, emphasizing the disturbing nature of the audience’s applause.
Calls for regulatory action were echoed by users online, with one urging Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to intervene, citing potential negative impacts on young viewers. Another user lamented the decline in the quality of humor, describing Allahbadia’s comments as “extremely stupid stuff.”
The controversy extends beyond this episode. A previous episode of “India’s Got Latent” had also made headlines when a contestant’s comments about dog meat led to legal action.
This series of events underscores ongoing concerns about content standards on digital platforms and the role of creators in shaping public discourse and taste.
