The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) claimed earlier today that a key member of its central coordination committee (Rabita Committee) Kamal Mallick has been arrested by paramilitary Rangers personnel.
According to the MQM, Mallick was arrested when Rangers carried out a raid on his residence in Karachi’s North Nazimabad area early morning today.
In a press statement, the MQM said Rangers personnel stayed at Mallick’s house for two hours during which they confiscated a large number of academic documents and certificates as well as removing all CCTV cameras and video recording equipment which they took with them.
“A heavy contingent of Rangers raided the house of Kamal Mallick on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday around 2:30 am. They scaled the walls of his home and arrested him. No reason for the arrest has been given,” said the MQM statement.
Mallick was taken to an unidentified location after the raid, the MQM claimed.
The MQM says the Rabita Committee member, who has previously been the Nazim in Karachi’s Gulberg Town, suffers from a liver ailment and had undergone a liver transplant two years ago.
The press statement further added that senior party leader Farooq Sattar contacted Rangers officials, but they said that they had no knowledge of any such arrest or raid.
