Rana Sanaullah, the Prime Minister’s Advisor on Political Affairs, has expressed serious concerns about the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), stating that the party may soon be declared illegal and face a ban on its activities.
Sanaullah criticized PTI’s leadership for disregarding the country’s welfare, accusing them of pursuing power to create personal sanctuaries rather than serving the nation. He referenced a cabinet committee’s report on the May 9 events, which outlined a deliberate plan by PTI for nationwide attacks orchestrated by the party’s founder.
The former Federal Minister of Interior highlighted that the May 9 attacks were a direct result of the party leader’s call to action after months of preparation. Sanaullah argued that political differences should ideally be resolved through negotiations, suggesting that talks with PTI could be possible if the party is committed to peaceful coexistence. However, he noted PTI’s insistence on negotiating only with the military, which he believes shows a disregard for political norms.
In addition to these political issues, Sanaullah has been actively meeting with Parliament members in the federal capital to discuss upcoming legislation and issues for the next National Assembly session.
Reflecting on the aftermath of Imran Khan’s arrest, he admitted that while PTI protests were anticipated, the scale and nature of the attacks on institutions were unexpected and unprecedented.
Sanaullah also discussed the legal proceedings following the May 9 incidents, expressing frustration over trial delays and calling for judicial reforms. He criticized higher courts’ use of suo motu actions, which he sees as complicating justice delivery.
Overall, Sanaullah stressed that the justice system’s failures and delays in addressing the May 9 incidents are significant concerns that reflect the broader challenges within Pakistan’s judicial framework and governance.
