Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah was acquitted in a 2019 drugs smuggling case.
Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) Lahore detained Sanaullah on July 1, 2019, near Ravi Toll Plaza Lahore.
The ANF claimed that they found 15kg of heroin in Sanaullah’s car and arrested five others, including his driver and security guards.
Lahore High Court (LHC) awarded Sanaullah bail on December 24, 2019.
The then-PTI government was accused of witch-hunting competitors by the opposition. However, Imran Khan’s administration denied arresting Sanaullah.
PML-N leader moved for acquittal and an early hearing today. The hearing was set for 2 pm.
Prosecutor Danish Mashkoor announced his resignation at the start of the hearing. I can’t sign witness statements. The other two prosecutors then signed.
Rana Sanaullah’s attorney contended that two witnesses recanted their claims. “They were recovery memo witnesses,” the defense said, “and the prosecution has no case.”
