Ramiz Raja Cites ‘India Factor’ in Pakistan’s Defeat to Bangladesh

Ramiz Raja, a former Pakistan cricket star, attributes Pakistan’s cricket team’s decline to a series of events beginning with the Asia Cup, where Indian batters dominated Pakistani bowlers. Following this, Pakistan suffered a devastating 10-wicket loss to Bangladesh in Test cricket, spotlighting significant issues within the team.

Raja criticized the team selection, particularly the absence of a spinner and the reliance on a fast-bowling lineup that he believes no longer holds the reputation it once did. He explained that the Asia Cup exposed the Pakistani pacers’ vulnerabilities, showing that aggression from opposing batters could easily undermine their bowling strategies. According to Raja, the effectiveness of Pakistan’s bowlers had diminished, with their speed and skill sets declining.

"This debacle started during the Asia Cup when India bashed our pacers on seaming conditions and then the secret was out to the world that the only way to counter this line-up was to attack," says Ramiz Raja.

In a video on his YouTube channel, Raja pointed out that Bangladeshi bowlers appeared more impactful, whereas Pakistani bowlers seemed entangled in drama rather than performance. The lack of a genuine fast bowler further disadvantaged Pakistan against Bangladesh’s lineup, which comfortably faced Pakistani pacers delivering at speeds between 125 to 135 km/h.

Beyond bowling concerns, Raja also criticized captain Shan Masood for poor leadership and an inability to adapt to match conditions. He remarked on Masood’s recent performance downturn, noting failures not just overseas but now at home against Bangladesh, a team Pakistan was expected to dominate. Raja suggested that Masood’s decisions, including opting for four pacers on the Rawalpindi track in August, demonstrated a lack of strategic understanding.

Raja urged Masood to enhance his batting and deepen his cricketing knowledge to justify his position. He stressed that continuous losses could lead to significant tension within the team and the broader cricket community, increasing pressure on the team management and players. He warned that the repercussions could be severe for Pakistan cricket without improvements in strategy and individual performances.
