Dubai Municipality inaugurated the ‘Ramadan Souq’ on Saturday, February 17, which will continue until March 9, 2024.
Ramadan Souq event, rooted in tradition, heralds the onset of Ramadan and unfolds at Old Municipality Street in Bur Deira, a celebrated market area in Dubai, attracting many shoppers searching for essentials and engaging in vibrant commercial pursuits and culinary exhibitions.
The ‘Ramadan Souq’ caters to a broad audience, including local citizens, expatriates, tourists, and visitors, offering a distinct shopping experience with competitive pricing. It features a mini-marketplace that presents a range of items and gadgets vital for Ramadan preparations, special products for ‘Hag Al Laila’ celebrations, various services, live entertainment, and children’s activities.
Dubai Municipality prioritizes enhancing heritage sites and traditional markets, allocating resources to entertainment, tourism, and commercial events. These initiatives underscore Dubai’s rich history and heritage, fostering investment and bolstering the city’s status as a premier global tourist destination. The launch of ‘Ramadan Souq’ underscores the Municipality’s commitment to preserving the heritage and traditions associated with Ramadan.
The souq operates daily from 10 AM to 10 PM, offering visitors ample time to explore and purchase.
Deira’s historical markets, pivotal as traditional trading centres since the 19th century, have been meticulously restored and categorized. Notable among these is the Grand Souq in Bur Deira, also known as ‘Al Dhalam Souq’ or Darkness Market, which is famous for its wide product range. Other markets include the Plates Market for kitchenware, a men’s fabrics market, ‘Souq Al Manazer for miscellaneous goods, ‘The al-Matarih Market’ for armchairs and pillows, along with markets for food, marine tools, fabrics, perfumes, and gold.
The annual ‘Ramadan Souq’ by Dubai Municipality is a strategic endeavour to enhance Dubai’s tourism, entertainment, and commerce, aiming to attract investment and elevate interest in the city’s public attractions and entertainment venues.
