The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is set to convene in Peshawar today (Friday) to observe the Ramadan moon, marking a pivotal moment in determining the start of the holy month. However, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted minimal chances of sighting due to cloudy weather conditions.
The committee, chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, will gather at 6:30 PM on February 28, following the Asr prayer, to deliberate on the moon sighting. This session is crucial as it sets the religious observance for the forthcoming month of Ramadan.

Simultaneously, zonal committees throughout Pakistan will meet to review moon sighting reports. These committees, comprising religious scholars from various schools of thought, will collaborate closely with the central session to ensure a unified start of Ramadan.

The PMD has reported partly cloudy skies across Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar, which could severely impact the moon’s visibility. At sunset, the moon will be approximately 12 hours old, with a moon-sun angular separation of about five degrees, further complicating sighting efforts.
