Rain has again delayed the eagerly awaited Asia Cup match between India and Pakistan in Colombo. Despite a slight decrease in rainfall, the ground staff has yet to remove the pitch covers, postponing the 3 p.m. start time, reported ESPN Cricinfo.
This Super Four stage encounter has faced several weather disruptions, with previous matches being washed out or abandoned midway. The organizing authorities had allocated a reserve day (today) for this critical clash, a provision only otherwise made for the final game.
During the last interruption, India scored 147/2 in 24.1 overs, with Kohli and Rahul poised to continue their innings once the match resumes. Despite the hopes pinned on the reserve day, the forecast indicates an 87% chance of thunderstorms at the game’s initial scheduled time, possibly followed by more storms later in the evening.
A minimum of 20 overs must be played in each innings to obtain a result. If the game is washed out again, both teams will earn a point, catapulting Pakistan to the top of the Super Four rankings following their victory over Bangladesh. India is slated to face Sri Lanka tomorrow.
Wasim Akram and the Pakistan Cricket Board also took to social media platform X to discuss the weather conditions and notify fans regarding ticket validity for the rescheduled game.
