Former Pakistan Army Chief General (retd) Raheel Sharif to address the World Economic Forum in Switzerland.
Besides addressing WEF, he will attend couple meetings on security issues. This is the first time that a former army chief of Pakistan has been invited to speak at the WEF.
Raheel would highlight Pakistan Army’s counter-insurgency operations and improved security environment in the country as well as in the region besides discussing opportunities under multi-billion China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.
Defence Minister Khawaja Asif triggered a debate in the country after he said in an interview that Raheel Sharif has been appointed as head of the Saudi led Islamic Military Alliance with the consent of both government and the General Headquarters, prompting Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani to seek a briefing on the matter.
The annual WEF meetings will start from January 17 and continue for four days.
