Qatar and Saudi Arabia have jointly voiced concerns regarding the severe humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.
In a statement released by the Qatari-Saudi Coordination Council, both countries emphasized the urgency of resolving this crisis.
The statement from Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman underlined the necessity to halt military operations in the Palestinian territories. They stressed the importance of protecting civilians by international law and urged international pressure on Israel to prevent the forced displacement of Palestinians.
The two nations called for intensified international efforts to address the invasion of Gaza, advocating for a solution based on the two-state principle and the Arab Peace Initiative. The United States has also highlighted the need for Israel to allow more humanitarian aid, including fuel, into Gaza.
The US State Department’s Matthew Miller pointed out the insufficiency of current aid levels and urged Israel to increase them. Despite some aid and fuel reaching Gaza from Egypt, the United Nations reported that the situation in Gaza is deteriorating rapidly, with shelters, including those of the UNRWA, being overwhelmed and unable to accommodate the increasing number of displaced people.
