On August 16, 2025, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced the launch of the province’s first veterinary internship program.
The Punjab government has allocated Rs600 million to create opportunities for 1,000 veterinary graduates and para-veterinarians. This initiative will provide DVM graduates with a monthly stipend of Rs60,000 and para-veterinarians with Rs40,000, with the aim of improving the livestock and dairy sectors.
Eligible candidates for the positions include graduates with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree recognised by the Higher Education Commission, as well as individuals who hold a two-year Livestock Assistant Diploma (LAD). Applications can be submitted through www.jobs.punjab.gov.pk. Special quotas have been established to ensure participation from all 36 districts of Punjab for roles such as Veterinary Assistants, AI Technicians, and Lab Assistants.

CM Maryam Nawaz stated, “This initiative promotes livestock, strengthens the dairy sector, and develops skilled manpower.” She emphasised the importance of improving milk and meat production to enhance Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves. The program offers hands-on training and provides direct animal healthcare to farmers, aiming to establish Punjab as a central hub for dairy and livestock.
The veterinary program supports Punjab’s broader development initiatives, including the Honhaar Scholarship Programme, demonstrating a commitment to skill-building and economic growth. By assisting farmers and improving livestock potential, this initiative could promote rural prosperity and boost export growth, especially in light of Pakistan’s economic reforms under a $7 billion IMF bailout.
