A shocking corruption scandal has surfaced at Punjab University’s Institute of Education and Research.
A preliminary inquiry revealed financial irregularities, including fake recruitments and fraudulent leasing. Six high-value commercial shops were rented out at dirt-cheap rates to favored individuals, bypassing proper bidding processes. Worse, these leases had no end date, raising red flags about oversight.

The report accuses officials of pocketing shop security deposits instead of depositing them into the university treasury. Key players, including the former department head, an associate professor, and staff, face blame for the mismanagement.
Separately, the Anti-Corruption Department has been handed a fake appointments case. The inquiry demands a full investigation and tough disciplinary measures for the guilty.
This isn’t Punjab University’s first brush with scandal. Last year, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lahore sought to drop a corruption case against former Vice Chancellor Dr. Mujahid Kamran and others, citing weak evidence. With fresh allegations, the university’s reputation hangs in the balance. As probes deepen, accountability remains the focus.
