The Punjab government late yesterday night announced that all public and private schools across the province would remain closed until January 31 (Sunday), as a fresh cold wave gripped parts of the region.
The decision was announced by the spokesman for the provincial government.
But the delay in the announcement caused inconvenience for many schoolchildren and their parents, who got to know about the announcement only after they brought their little ones to schools on Tuesday morning.
Severe cold wave has gripped parts of Punjab, including Lahore, and the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, as freezing winds coming from the nearby hilly areas dropped the mercury down by almost 12 to 14 degrees Celsius in last few days.
Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) Director Dr. Muhammad Hanif says that the severe cold weather and dense fog would persist at least until Sunday due to freezing winds coming in from the northern areas.
