The Punjab government has declared that school summer holidays will start on June 1, 2025, to protect students and staff from rising temperatures.
Punjab Govt’s School Education Secretary Khalid Nazir Wattoo stated that the schedule could shift earlier, possibly to May 25, if heatwaves worsen. “We are prioritising the health of students, teachers, and parents, as extreme heat disrupts learning,” Wattoo said, according to Express News.
Pakistan is highly vulnerable to climate change, with intensifying heat waves impacting education, health, and the economy. Punjab faces dry weather and rising temperatures, which experts link to global warming’s broader effects on infrastructure and daily life.
To ensure safety, the government has directed schools to provide clean drinking water, halt outdoor activities, and encourage students to wear light clothing. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has also urged schools to improve classroom ventilation, maintain working fans or cooling systems, and set up first-aid stations with staff trained to handle heat-related emergencies. Schools must work with district disaster management authorities to stay updated.
Parents and schools should monitor announcements, as the holiday schedule may change due to weather conditions. The government is dedicated to keeping everyone informed to ensure the well-being of students.
