Punjab’s Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has forecast rain and snowfall across several districts starting December 20.

The authority said a western weather disturbance will enter Balochistan on December 19. As a result, rain and thunderstorms will affect Murree, Rawalpindi, and other parts of Punjab. According to the PDMA, the Potohar region, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Bhurban, Layyah, and the Galliyat may receive rain until December 21.

Cloudy conditions may also bring drizzle to several districts. These include Lahore, Sargodha, Khushab, Faisalabad, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Sheikhupura, Multan, Jhang, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Toba Tek Singh on December 20 and 21.

The PDMA warned that snowfall in Murree and the Galliyat could lead to road closures and slippery conditions from December 20 to December 22. The authority advised tourists to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel during this period. The authority also said smog and fog conditions will likely persist in central and northern Punjab.

PDMA urged district administrations to ensure round-the-clock staffing at District Emergency Operation Centres. It also directed departments to maintain close coordination for a rapid response and clear water channels of any obstructions. The authority further advised pre-positioning Rescue 1122 teams with essential equipment in vulnerable areas.

Earlier, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecast widespread rain and snow across the country from December 20 to December 22, driven by the same western system.

The Met Office said Balochistan may receive rain and snow in Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Killa Abdullah, Killa Saifullah, Noshki, Harnai, Zhob, Turbat, Gwadar, Lasbela, Kech, Awaran, Khuzdar, and Kalat from December 19 to December 20.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the PMD expects rain and snowfall in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Bajaur, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Waziristan, Nowshera, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, and Kohat from December 20 to December 22.
