The Punjab Mass Transit Authority has issued an official clarification regarding the eTransit App e-Wallet and the T-Cash Card to improve transparency and passenger awareness, according to reports.
In a public message on social media, the authority confirmed that the eTransit App and the T-Cash Card operate as two entirely separate systems and are not integrated.
The eTransit Punjab App functions as a mobile-based travel companion. It allows commuters to plan journeys, access real-time service updates, check delays, and explore the wider public transport network across Punjab.
The T-Cash Card, by contrast, is a rechargeable smart card designed exclusively for fare payments. Passengers can use it across multiple public transport services, including Metro Bus, Speedo Bus, and the Orange Line Train.
Separately, the Punjab government has also moved ahead with plans to convert all Orange Line stations and stops to solar power. Officials say the initiative will significantly reduce operating costs and ease the financial burden on the provincial exchequer.
According to Orange Line sources, a 1.6-megawatt solar power plant will be installed to supply electricity to stations. The generated power will meet requirements for escalators, platforms, lighting, and other operational needs.
The project is expected to cut monthly electricity expenses by millions of rupees. Currently, the provincial government provides billions of rupees in annual subsidies to keep the Orange Line operational.
This transition aligns with a broader national trend, as Pakistanis increasingly shift from the national grid to solar energy. The rapid growth of rooftop solar installations reflects rising energy costs and mounting pressure on a power sector burdened by long-standing debt.
