Approximately 300,000 farmers have registered for the Kissan Card, which is available on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.
Punjab Agriculture Secretary Iftikhar Ali Sahoo described the registration process as promising during a meeting on issuing and registering the Punjab Chief Minister’s Kissan Card. He reported that the Bank of Punjab has received detailed records for 121,000 farmers, and the production of 250,000 Kisan Cards is underway.
Sahoo directed relevant departments to speed up the card printing process. He set a goal to register an additional 200,000 farmers by August 1, stressing the importance of the Punjab CM Kissan Card for accessing subsidy schemes and other services from the Punjab Agriculture Department.
Sahoo also mentioned that they are finalizing arrangements to allow the purchase of diesel and mobil oil from PSO filling stations with the Kisan Card.
In a related legal matter, on April 1, the Lahore High Court dismissed a complaint about including former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s image on the Kisan Card. Justice Shahid Karim dismissed the petition filed by citizen Mashkoor Hussain, who challenged using public funds for personal publicity. However, CM Maryam Nawaz authorized using Nawaz Sharif’s image on the cards.
