The Punjab government withdrew its notification for the jail trial of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan in 12 May 9 cases, including the GHQ attack. The trials will now take place in the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) via video link from Adiala Jail.
Prosecutor Zaheer Shah informed the ATC that future hearings will occur in the court complex, not inside Adiala Jail. The court will hold the next hearing for the GHQ attack case on September 19, 2025. Two prosecution witnesses will appear, and Judge Amjad Ali Shah will preside. The court adjourned the remaining 11 cases from May 9 until October 1. It ordered the Superintendent of Adiala Jail to arrange video link facilities. Furthermore, it directed the SP Security to enhance security measures at the ATC complex.
The May 9 cases stem from violent protests following Imran Khan’s arrest in 2023, including an attack on the General Headquarters (GHQ). Khan, detained in Adiala Jail, faces multiple charges. The shift to ATC hearings responds to concerns about fairness and ensures public access to the judicial process.

Separately, PTI’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa spokesperson Barrister Saif said that Khan supports action against militants. “The founder’s policy is clear: no compromise with terrorists,” Saif said, clarifying that no military operations are currently active in the province. This shows PTI’s focus on national security alongside legal battles.

The withdrawal of the jail trial notification ensures transparency in Khan’s high-profile cases, impacting Pakistan’s political and legal landscape. The move to ATC hearings reflects judicial accountability, while Khan’s stance on terrorism highlights PTI’s broader priorities. These developments resonate with millions following the cases.
Punjab’s decision to move Imran Khan’s May 9 trials to the ATC marks a key shift in his legal saga. As hearings approach, the focus is on justice and security.
