Punjab is enduring a severe heatwave, with soaring temperatures and dry weather creating challenging conditions for residents. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasts no rainfall in the coming days, intensifying the heat across the province.
The PMD reports a steady temperature rise in major cities, including Lahore, the provincial capital. In Lahore, daytime highs are expected to reach 40°C, with nighttime lows around 22°C. Low humidity levels, dropping to 20%, increase the risk of dehydration and discomfort.
The forecast indicates persistent dry weather, with southern Punjab districts likely to experience dusty winds. The absence of rainfall exacerbates the arid conditions, putting additional strain on residents and infrastructure.

Air conditioners used in homes, offices, and businesses have spiked as temperatures climb, driving up electricity consumption across Punjab. This increased demand is putting pressure on the province’s power grid.
Health and Safety Recommendations
Health experts urge residents to take precautions during this extreme heat. Vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions, should:
- Avoid unnecessary outdoor activities, especially during peak heat hours.
- Wear protective masks to guard against dust and poor air quality.
- Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
Extreme heat can be dangerous, especially for at-risk groups. Precaution is key,” said Dr. Ayesha Khan, a public health specialist.
