The Punjab Government has introduced an innovative e-auction system for custom number plates, vehicle registration, and online bidding for desired number plates via a dedicated app and web portal.
The registration window for this service will remain open until December 31, 2024, and the link to the E-Auction Portal of Excise & Taxation Punjab for the custom number plates will give participants sufficient time to obtain their preferred custom numbers.
The Punjab Excise and Taxation Department, in collaboration with the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB), developed this e-auction platform to simplify the bidding process for motorcycle and car number plates. The app also provides access to auction results and details of winning bids.
PITB Chairman Faisal Yousaf emphasized the system’s ease of use and accessibility, noting that the e-auction app facilitates straightforward online registration and bidding, enhancing both convenience and efficiency.
Additionally, to tackle the misuse of authority, Pakistan Customs has implemented a new policy that limits government officers’ use of smuggled tempered cars. This initiative aims to prevent Customs officials from using impounded vehicles for personal advantage.
The new regulations restrict the use of smuggled tempered vehicles within government departments by revoking No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for cars previously used by officials. The Custom Intelligence Office is now limited to using a maximum of ten cars at the provincial level.
This policy seeks to curb the improper use of authority, addressing concerns over Customs officials’ frequent use of thousands of seized vehicles. Under the new guidelines, the Islamabad Customs Intelligence office is capped at using 12 vehicles, while offices in Karachi, Lahore, Quetta, and Peshawar allow up to 10 cars.
