The Punjab government has approved a new tram service in Lahore to enhance transportation infrastructure.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif greenlit the project during her recent visit to the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) headquarters.
The LDA has already started work on the 11-kilometre tram line, featuring ten stops about 1 to 1.5 kilometres apart. Drawing on modern tram designs from Finland and China, the project is projected to cost Rs27 billion.
The tram route will pass through key areas such as Main Boulevard from Kalma Chowk, Liberty, Main Market, Mini Market, and Hali Road. As part of this initiative, MM Alam Road will become a one-way street to support the tram pathway, aligning with the re-modelling and beautification efforts approved by the chief minister.
A special tram stop at Gaddafi Stadium will facilitate easy access for sports fans and event attendees. Ticket prices for the tram service will be announced after the launch.
