The Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, has approved the “Roshan Gharana” program to address inflation and provide affordable electricity.
Roshan Gharana initiative, unveiled during a cabinet meeting in Lahore, will equip millions of citizens with solar panels that will allow them to consume between 50 and 500 units of electricity.
The provincial government will cover 90% of the cost of these solar panels, while the consumers will pay the remaining 10% in easy five-year instalments.
Chief Minister Maryam has formally called for another cabinet meeting to endorse this program. According to the official statement, the government will determine the mix of government-supplied electricity and solar power based on user needs.
This program aims to address the escalating electricity costs and ongoing energy crises. The government plans to prioritize the most underprivileged and poorest households in the distribution of solar panels, ensuring a transparent procedure.
Chief Minister Maryam emphasized the initiative’s commitment to eco-friendly energy solutions and reassured citizens during the meeting, stating, “We will not leave our people alone during difficult times. We are trying to protect our people from the effects of past destruction.” She also projected that the program would significantly alleviate current issues within five years, bringing substantial changes to the lives of the masses.
