The Department of Excise, Taxation & Narcotics Control has recently taken a major operation against property tax, luxury tax, and commercial property tax defaulters in the Rawalpindi district, resulting in the sealing of 248 property units.
The operation was conducted to curb the trend of tax defaulting, which has become a major issue in the district. The department has also managed to arrest 13 major defaulters and has successfully recovered Rs30.07 million from them.
The department has decided to build upon the success of this operation. It has made it mandatory for all major VVIP housing societies within the city to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the department to sell and transfer property titles. This move aims to ensure that all city property transactions are properly regulated, and taxes are paid on time.
Any transferred properties without obtaining this NOC will be considered a bookable offense, and violators will be subjected to heavy fines. The department is confident that this move will provide them with additional revenue of millions of rupees annually.
Sources within the department have confirmed that the property registrar has already been informed about this new rule through a notice. According to the notice, houses and plots in big housing societies can no longer be transferred without obtaining NOC from the department. This is a major step towards ensuring that all property transactions within the city are conducted legally and transparently and that all taxes are paid on time.
