The Advocate General of Punjab has submitted the statement of the Chief Minister, Shahbaz Sharif to the inquiry tribunal on the Model Town Incident.
Shahabaz Sharif in his statement, said that he came to know about the event through television and that he had scolded the Principal Secretary of Punjab, for keeping him uninformed.
Justice Ali Baqar resumed the hearing, during which the Advocate General submitted the statement by the CM Shahbaz.Sharif, which the court ordered to be read out.
The Chief Minister in his statement said, ‘while he was there at the Governor House Punjab, for attending the oath-taking ceremony of the Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court, where from he got to know via television that a heavy contingent of police and PAT workers are standing outside the Minhaj ul Quran International (MQI) Secretariat.”
Shahbaz claimed to order the police to retreat from there, fearing any casualties or worsened law and order situation. He later set out for Model town, where he had to meet a foreign delegation.
During the meeting, he came to know about the fact that bullets were fired outside the MQI Secretariat, consequently killing innocent people over there, at which he ordered to provide best facilities to the injured.
The Chief Minister further stated that due to the killings of innocent people, he immediately suspended the CCPO Lahore, DIG Operations and SP Model Town.
