The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced its candidates for the upcoming National Assembly leadership positions, with the session set for February 29. Omar Ayub, the party’s Secretary General, revealed that Amir Dogar had been chosen to vie for the Speaker’s role, representing NA-149. Junaid Khan from Malakand has been nominated for the Deputy Speaker position.
PTI’s Chairman, Gohar Khan, clarified that the party lays exclusive claim to the reserved seats for the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), challenging other parties’ entitlements. He criticized the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), stating that its decisions have compromised PTI’s constitutional rights.
Gohar Khan insists that the assembly sessions, including the one scheduled for February 29, cannot proceed legally until the ECP addresses the issue of reserved seats, highlighting that the party has made four formal appeals to the commission.
Furthermore, Gohar Khan labelled the recent Punjab Assembly session as unauthorized and anticipated similar illegitimacy for the upcoming National Assembly session. He emphasized the necessity of officially acknowledging all members, referencing the allocation of 60 seats for women and 10 for minorities in the National Assembly, to ensure a legitimate session.
