The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party has denied allegations that senior leader Azam Swati is in negotiations with the military establishment.
PTI’s Secretary General, Salman Akram Raja, addressed reporters outside an anti-terrorism court in Lahore, stating, “Swati’s actions are personal and not sanctioned by the party.” For the time being, PTI is waiting for guidance from Imran Khan.
The speculation surrounding the talks between the PTI and the military has sparked significant debate. However, Raja emphasized the PTI’s core mission: “We uphold the rule of law and the Constitution.” No talks will be confirmed until the leaders meet with Imran Khan. Raja also noted, “Efforts to create ambiguity seem deliberate,” pointing out the delays in accessing Khan.
Azam Swati’s Claims
Swati recently spoke of bridging talks between Khan and the military. He praised the army as a “national pride.” Yet, he denied any deal tied to his release from jail. Moreover, Swati affirmed his loyalty to Khan. PTI, though, remains firm on making no decisions without Khan’s approval.

Rumours of backchannel deals swirl as Khan remains jailed. PTI rejects secret negotiations and pushes for open elections. For instance, Raja insists that clarity can only come from Khan. The party’s stance counters the influence of a military-backed government.
