Peshawar: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is leading after security 42 district council seats, according to unofficial results of re-polling for Local Government elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Unofficial results for KP local government setup have started to pour in, following the re-polling in 362 polling stations in 14 districts.

The unofficial results of 93 district councils unveiled PTI has bagged 42 seats, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) 12, Awami National Party (ANP) 7, Jamaat-e-Islami 4, Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) 4, Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) 3, and the independent candidate secured 21 seats.

According to unofficial and unconfirmed results of 64 tehsil councils, PTI has secured 18 seats, JUI-F 9, ANP 8, QWP 4, PML-N 3, JI 2 and independent candidates 21.

Re-polling took place on Thursday under strict security on 362 polling stations.

LG elections on the 362 seats held in late May this year were declared void after widespread reports of rigging and irregularities, and voters cast their ballots again on Thursday.

Re-polling was held in Peshawar, Nowshera, Charsadda, Mardan, Swabi, Hangu, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, DI Khan, Abbottabad, Manshera, and Buner districts. Polling started at 8:00AM and continued till 6:00PM without any break.

According to reports, women also came out in large numbers to exercise their right of franchise.

Women came out to vote for the first time in Swabi’s Tandkoi Union Council, while reports also received of delays in start of polling in several districts.
