Peshawar: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) emerged as the largest party in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s local bodies (LB) elections that were held on Saturday. Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) is all poised to form governments in two districts followed by the JUI-F that claimed its third spot in the polls.

Unofficial results of at least 177 district council seats and 111 tehsil council seats have been announced so far. The elections results are still being prepared.

The PTI managed to grab 51 district council and 26 tehsil council seats, according to the hitherto-announced unofficial results. The JI is closely on trail with 47 district council and 34 tehsil council seats.

The candidates hailing from Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) succeeded in notching up 21 district council and ten tehsil council seats.

Meantime, Awami National Party (ANP) could claim 18 district council and eight tehsil council seats.

By and large, the independent candidates emerged as a force to be reckoned with, as 23 district council and 16 tehsil council seats have gone to them.

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) also got its share in the KPK’s local bodies system with nine district council seats and eight tehsil council seats. All Pakistan Muslim League’s two candidates won seats in District Council Chitral.

Qaumi Watan Party succeeded in getting one seat each in district council and tehsil council. PkMAP also bagged a seat in tehsil council.
