A Lahore-based anti-terrorism court (ATC) exonerated Yasmin Rashid, a prominent leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), from charges related to an alleged vandalism incident at Corps Commander House, also known as Jinnah House, that took place on May 9. The ATC in Lahore acquitted the former Punjab minister in the Jinnah House assault case and instructed for her immediate release.
Yasmin Rashid was brought before a single-bench Lahore ATC, presided over by Judge Abher Gul Khan. The police petitioned for an extension of Rashid’s physical remand during the proceedings. However, the court rejected the police’s request for an extension and discharged Rashid from the case.
The court’s written decree stated, “Upon examination of the case records, it’s evident that neither Dr. Yasmin Rashid is directly implicated in the FIR, nor implicated through additional statements. Her summons in the case is based solely on a co-accused’s disclosure, which carries no evidential weight in the court’s view.”
The order further highlighted that no incriminating evidence was discovered against Rashid, consequently ordering her discharge.
Yasmin Rashid, the PTI Central Punjab President, was initially detained under section three of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO).
