Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lost a seat in the Sindh Assembly in the February 8 general elections following a recount.
PTI’s Sarbuland Khan was defeated by Asif Moosa of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) in Sindh Assembly constituency PS-112. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) conducted a recount, which led to Moosa’s victory. Subsequently, Moosa was sworn in as a member of the Sindh Assembly. After the recount, Moosa secured 11,724 votes to Khan’s 9,943.
Initially, Khan, running as a PTI-backed independent, was declared the winner with 16,287 votes against Moosa’s 10,784. However, the ECP’s recount altered these results.

Khan had previously challenged the recount decision in the Sindh High Court, arguing that under Section 95(6) of the Election Act 2019, the ECP lacked the authority to order a recount after the results were finalized.
This is not PTI’s first loss in a recount. In August, the party also lost NA-79 Gujranwala. There, PML-N’s Zulfikar Bhindar requested a recount approved by the Returning Officer (RO). Bhindar won by 3,023 votes, securing 95,604 votes against PTI-backed independent Ehsan Ullah Virk, who received 92,581 votes.
