Per the unofficial and unconfirmed results from by-elections in NA-193, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) retained its National Assembly seat in Rajanpur, NA-193, on Sunday.
Mohsin Leghari of the PTI won the election with 90,392 votes from all 237 polling locations. With 55,218 votes, Ammar Leghari of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) finished in second.
As a result of the passing of Sardar Mohammad Jaffar Khan Leghari, an MNA elected by the PTI, the seat became vacant.
On Sunday morning, the voting began at 8 a.m. and continued until 5 p.m. However, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) permitted voters present in polling places after the 5 p.m. deadline to cast ballots.
The Punjab Home Department requested the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to postpone the by-elections due to security concerns, but the ECP denied the request.
In a statement released this morning, the ECP stated that a control room had been set up at its secretariat to monitor the election and handle complaints regarding the voting process.
According to the electoral body, there are 379,204 registered voters in the constituency, of which 206,497 are men, 172,709 are women, and eleven candidates are running in the by-elections.
According to the ECP, 237 polling locations have been established and are being guarded by police officers in the constituency. According to the electoral commission, 200 members of the Punjab Rangers also serve as a rapid response unit. In addition, it stated that anyone found violating the election code of conduct or interfering with the voting process would be subject to severe punishment.
Mohsin Leghari was nominated by the Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) to run in the by-elections for Rajanpur’s NA 193 after Imran Khan withdrew his nomination paperwork out of concern he would be disqualified in the Tyrian White case.
In addition to Akhtar Hassan Gorchani and Ammar Awais Laghari, there are eight other candidates, including Akhtar Hassan Gorchani of the Pakistan Peoples Party and Ammar Awais Laghari of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.
After the passing of PTI lawmaker Jaffar Khan Leghari, the seat became vacant. On December 31, 2022, he passed away in Lahore after a lengthy illness.
