The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) announced that it is actively investigating reports of internet disruptions in some areas of the country.
Despite these reports, the PTA’s statement confirmed that Pakistan’s overall internet access situation remained normal.
This investigation follows a day of significant disruptions experienced by social media users nationwide. Many reported difficulties in accessing major platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, and X (formerly known as Twitter).
The disruption, as noted by Downdetector, mainly affected the website versions of these apps, beginning around 7:00 pm on Sunday. Cities like Karachi, Lahore, Mir Pur Khas, and Rawalpindi were among the most impacted.

Internet users faced slow connectivity and raised concerns about potential deliberate slowdowns. This suspicion was fueled by reports that the internet speed seemed normal when using a VPN. Social media users, including journalists, took to platforms like X to express their difficulties accessing social media and experiencing overall slow internet speeds. The cause of the outage remained unclear at the time of reporting.
Many people echoed these concerns, with many responding that they faced similar issues. Questions about potential restrictions on internet access and social media application use in Pakistan were raised, seeking authorities’ confirmation of the situation.
