Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has blocked more than 25 million unverified and unclaimed mobile phone subscriber identity modules (SIMs).
PTA has blocked SIMs after a three-month deadline for biometric verification which expired on Sunday.

PTA sources has also confirmed and said “25m SIMs which could not be verified had been blocked”.
Sources also added that PTA and the ministry of information technology would also start an audit of the telecommunication services operators to verify the entire process.
PTA has confirmed that blocked numbers would not be allotted to anyone else. “They can get their mobile phone numbers unblocked by visiting the customer service centres of the operators concerned during the next six months,”
