PSV sealed the Eredivisie crown on Sunday, with the Dutch title becoming official after Feyenoord failed to beat Volendam. The result handed PSV a third straight Dutch league championship with five matches still left in the season.
The title was confirmed a day after PSV’s dramatic 4-3 home win over Utrecht. That result pushed them to 71 points from 29 games and left Feyenoord needing a victory to stay in contention.
Feyenoord’s goalless draw at Volendam ended any remaining suspense in the title race. The Rotterdam club moved to 54 points, which left them 17 points behind PSV.
Saturday’s win had already put PSV in command, especially with their much stronger goal difference. PSV held a +42 goal difference, compared with Feyenoord’s +21, but Sunday’s draw made the mathematics final.
Third Straight Eredivisie Crown for PSV
The latest triumph marks the third time in PSV’s history that the club has won three league titles in a row. They previously won four consecutive championships from 1986 to 1989 and again from 2005 to 2008.
PSV now have 27 Dutch league titles. Only Ajax have won more, with 36. The title sparked immediate celebrations in Eindhoven, where supporters had been waiting for confirmation after Feyenoord dropped points.
By winning the title, PSV secured a place in next season’s Champions League group phase for a fourth consecutive campaign. The runners-up will also qualify directly for the 2026-27 group stage.
Meanwhile, the battle below them remains tight. Feyenoord are only one point ahead of NEC Nijmegen, while Twente climbed to fourth after beating Ajax 2-1 away on Saturday.
PSV will receive the trophy on Tuesday at a ceremony at Philips Stadion. However, the celebrations have been overshadowed by a serious injury to captain Jerdy Schouten.
The 29-year-old midfielder suffered a cruciate ligament injury against Utrecht. According to the source text, that injury will rule him out of the World Cup in June.
