Islamabad: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Thursday that the privatisation of K-Electric would not be reversed and that the focus should lie on electricity generation in Karachi.

“K-Electric is a privatised project and the government is in no mood to reverse it,” a participant of the meeting said. Sources said under a new agreement with K-Electric, restrictions and new strict conditions would be introduced to ensure smooth provision of electricity to the residents of Karachi.

During the meeting, Secretary Water and Power Younus Dagha briefed the Cabinet on load management in Ramazan. Further, the meeting discussed the power crisis in Karachi and matters particularly pertaining to K-Electric. The Pakistan Muslim League-N leadership concluded that if the party fails to overcome the energy crisis of the country, they will lose votes in the next elections, officials said.

The meeting was attended by various lawmakers, including Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif, Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique and Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif among others.
