Fans of the legendary musician Prince celebrated as much for his unique fashion sense as his music, have the opportunity to bid on items from his extravagant wardrobe in an online auction. The sale, hosted by RR Auction of Boston, features over 200 lots from a collection initially gathered by a French collector aiming to open a Prince museum.
This auction showcases Prince’s journey through music and fashion, from his “Purple Rain” era until his death in 2016. Among the notable items is the outfit was worn in “Under the Cherry Moon,” Prince’s 1986 film where he made his directorial debut, valued at $45,000.
Other auction items include high-heeled blue boots from the Act I Tour, a custom-made gold stage outfit, and a blue Schecter ‘Cloud’ Guitar, each reflecting Prince’s status as a fashion icon. The auction also features unique memorabilia, including original Polaroid photographs, master tapes, and documents related to his films and music videos.
The auction, which closes on Thursday, is not just a sale of memorabilia but a celebration of Prince’s influential legacy in music and fashion. Earlier this year, Prince’s home state of Minnesota paid tribute to him by renaming a highway stretch near his Paisley Park home in his honour. The governor signed the bill using purple ink, symbolizing Prince’s signature color and lasting impact on art and culture.
