US President Joe Biden has authorized Kyiv to deploy long-range American missiles against military targets inside Russia. This major policy shift was in response to North Korea’s support for Moscow’s military efforts.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky advocated for Washington’s approval to use the Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) against Russian targets.
The decision has sparked controversy among allies of former President Donald Trump, who has not yet commented on the issue. Trump, who campaigned on ending the war, won the election with such promises, and his close associates have criticized Biden’s move as a dangerous escalation.
Donald Trump Jr. expressed his disapproval on social media, suggesting the decision could provoke a major conflict. “The military-industrial complex wants to start World War Three before my father can broker peace and save lives,” he tweeted.
Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene and Utah Senator Mike Lee also voiced their opposition on X. Greene emphasized that the American electorate opposed such decisions in the recent election, prioritizing domestic issues over foreign conflicts. Lee criticized the liberal faction for favouring war and the expansion of government. Elon Musk, aligning with Trump, echoed this sentiment.
Meanwhile, China called for a peaceful resolution to the Ukraine conflict. Lin Jian, a spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, advocated for a ceasefire and a political solution during a regular briefing. “The immediate task is to de-escalate the situation,” he stated.
This development followed Ukraine’s announcement of nationwide emergency power restrictions due to a massive Russian attack that killed 11 civilians and severely impacted the nation’s energy infrastructure as winter looms.
Additionally, another strike on Sunday evening in the northeast town of Sumy resulted in the deaths of 10 people, including two children, intensifying global outrage against Russia’s actions.
