Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, Foreign Minister and Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) emphasized his party’s commitment to combating social issues like poverty, inflation, and unemployment rather than engaging in political rivalries.
At the inauguration ceremony of the new Kakri Ground Sports Complex in Lyari, the minister encouraged his followers to prepare for a brighter future.
Bhutto-Zardari highlighted the motivation behind the no-confidence motion in the National Assembly, stating it was to oust a previous ruler who mishandled the people’s mandate during the past elections. He described this as a sign of his party’s dedication to proper governance.
A Special Bond with Lyari
Reflecting on the unique relationship between his family and the residents of Lyari, Bhutto-Zardari fondly recalled that his parents, Benazir Bhutto and Asif Ali Zardari, celebrated their wedding at Kakri Ground. He noted that Lyari streets had been the launching pad for the movement to advance Pakistan’s progress.
Bhutto-Zardari appreciated Lyari’s residents for their firm stand against the dictatorial regimes of former military generals Ziaul Haq, Pervez Musharraf, and the previous inefficient leader.
He pointed out the PPP’s landslide victory in the local government elections in Lyari. He attributed this win to the lack of external interference, reinforcing his belief in the democratic process.
Focus on Social Issues
Bhutto-Zardari expressed the PPP’s commitment to providing opportunities for the youth and ensuring improved sports and healthcare facilities for the residents of Lyari and the rest of Karachi.
In contrast to politicians who mislead and incite division among the youth, Bhutto-Zardari explained that the PPP has always rejected politics of hatred and division. At the Suffa University Convocation, he warned about the dangers of toxic polarization, urging the youth to focus on constructive efforts.
He expressed his preference for politics of reconciliation and welfare over internal disputes. The chairman articulated that the country’s political focus should be on combating poverty, inflation, and unemployment, to compete globally in areas like artificial intelligence and cutting-edge research.
