Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has suggested that all national assemblies should be dissolved on August 8. The proposal was disclosed during an informal talk at Parliament House by Federal Minister of Commerce Naveed Qamar, a PPP member.
Qamar clarified that the final decision rests with the federal government, although the PPP wishes to dissolve assemblies on the suggested date. He also stressed the need for electoral reforms before the elections, including issues such as the RTS system. Qamar insisted on a political consensus regarding these electoral changes.
The Federal Minister shared the PPP’s stance against extending the current government’s term and emphasized that any caretaker arrangement should not surpass the constitutionally set period.
The party also reaffirmed its commitment to legislative principles concerning any potential expansion of the current assembly.
Transition to Caretaker Government
Last month, Marriyum Aurangzeb, the Minister for Information and Broadcasting, announced that a caretaker government would be implemented after the current government’s term concludes in August.
Aurangzeb confirmed that this interim government will manage the upcoming general elections. She added that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is gearing up for the elections under Nawaz Sharif’s leadership, who served as prime minister three times.
The chief party organizer, Maryam Nawaz, has already launched election campaigns, Aurangzeb added during a ‘Meet the Press event at the Lahore Press Club. She noted that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will fix the specific election dates, and decisions about electoral alliances will be made when right.
