The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has tentatively agreed to join the federal government cabinet following discussions to appoint governors in two provinces.
According to sources, the PPP is anticipated to secure eight ministries, although details regarding the specific ministries and their number remain deliberated. While the party’s representatives in Islamabad have made no official announcement, the likelihood of this development has been positively received without any outright rejections.
The decision surfaced after a significant one-on-one meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto in Islamabad, where they reportedly discussed the nomination of governors for two provinces.
Sources from the Muslim League noted that during the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended a formal invitation to Bilawal Bhutto to participate in the federal government, and potential ministerial roles were explored.
Chairman Bilawal Bhutto’s prior role as Foreign Minister was notably praised for his contributions to the country’s foreign affairs.
Following the general elections on February 8, 2024, the PPP and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) formed a coalition government at the federal level. Initially, Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari declared that the PPP would not join the federal cabinet and would instead support the PML-N’s candidate for prime minister. Subsequently, the PPP endorsed Shehbaz Sharif as Prime Minister and Ayaz Sadiq as Speaker of the National Assembly.
