In an effort to balance the financial strain caused by the Budget 2023-24, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) approved a rise of Rs1.61 per unit in electricity tariffs on Tuesday.
Nepra issued a statement confirming that the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had proposed a tariff increase of Rs2.1 per unit. The rise in electricity tariffs is due to adjustments in monthly fuel costs.
Due to this decision, customers must account for the additional costs in their June bills, intensifying their current financial stress.
In a separate development, the federal government has increased the K-Electric subsidy from Rs193 billion to Rs315bn. The subsidy boost is a response to a request made by the company.
