An ongoing power outage crisis has gripped Larkana and left residents without electricity for five days. The lack of power in Larkana has caused a significant disruption in daily life and has become a source of increasing frustration for the inhabitants.
The city, known for its historical significance, is struggling under this prolonged power shortage.
PPP Cochairman’s Intervention
Given the severity of the situation, Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) Co-chairman and former President, Asif Ali Zardari, has intervened. Concerned about the non-supply of electricity in Larkana, Zardari instructed the Provincial Energy Minister, Imtiaz Shaikh, to oversee the power supply’s restoration.
Acting upon Zardari’s directive, Minister Imtiaz Sheikh immediately took action. He travelled to the Garhi Yasin area of Sindh, a significant step demonstrating the importance of resolving the power outage. The minister’s actions included the cancellation of leave for staff members of the Sukkur Electric Power Company (SEPCO), who have been summoned to aid in rectifying the power crisis.
In his pursuit to restore the electricity supply to Larkana, Imtiaz Sheikh confirmed that the former president had given him carte blanche to solicit whatever assistance is necessary from the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA). As stated by Minister Sheikh, the goal is to restore the power supply by evening, finally ending the extended blackout.
